Complex Material in Realtime Graphics

چکیده

Programmable rendering pipelines in modern graphics processing units have created a significant demand for realistically-looking three-dimensional scenes in real-time using more sophisticated illumination models that were even thinkable of a few years ago. However, it will be demonstrated that realistic illumination of complex materials is still too memory-intensive for naïve solutions, so more sophisticated methods have to be developed. Three of those methods, the Spatial Bi-Directional Reflectance Distribution Function, the separable compositions technique, and the convoluted environment map, will be demonstrated, presenting simple but effective ways to apply existing knowledge to enhance the visual experience while still being able to render at interactive rates.

A Study of Speed of the Boundary Element Method as applied to the Realtime Computational Simulation of Biological Organs

In this work, possibility of simulating biological organs in realtime using the Boundary Element Method (BEM) is investigated. Biological organs are assumed to follow linear elastostatic material behavior, and constant boundary element is the element type used. First, a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) is used to speed up the BEM computations to achieve the realtime performance. Next, instead of ...

Realtime Ray Tracing

Realtime ray tracing produces high quality images at interactive frame rates. While the realtime rendering domain is still dominated by raster graphics, realtime ray tracing recently has become much more powerful. This paper addresses the essence of realtime ray tracing: the various acceleration techniques which yield interactive performance, how coherence between rays can be exploited and effe...

BRDF-Shop: An artistic tool for creating physically correct BRDFs

We present an interface for quick and intuitive development of arbitrary, but physically correct, Bi-directional Reflectance Distribution Functions, or BRDFs. Our interface, referred to as BRDF-Shop, provides artists the ability to create a BRDF through positioning and manipulating highlights on a spherical canvas. We develop a novel mapping between painted highlights and specular lobes of an e...

Rendering Microgeometry with Volumetric Precomputed Radiance Transfer

Although computer graphics hardware has made tremendous advances over the last few years, there are many things which are still not feasible to render in realtime. One of these is the subset of surfaces referred to as ’microgeometry,’ where many small individual pieces combine to create a complex surface. Microgeometry is a problem for typical polygonal rendering systems, the method used in the...

Realtime Simulation and Rendering of Dynamic and Complex Fracture Phenomena

We present a novel framework for realtime simulation and rendering of the breaking and fracturing of elastic objects. First, we use the linearized forms of the equations of elasticity in a novel multiresolution ’ghosting’ framework for fast simulation of the deformation and breaking of a tetrahedral mesh on a CPU. This is coupled with a fast interactive subsurface scattering method suitable for...
